Knife Finishing Makes The Difference

When you want to buy a knife you need to decide on the kind of finish you want. This is a key step when deciding on what type of knife you wish to buy. There are several kinds of finishes to choose from and each finish will create a different look for your knife. Just remember no matter what the knife finishing, you need to get proper knife sharpening or grinding on a regular basis. Here are some things to consider when buying your knife.

If you buy a jeweled metal knife then you should know the finish is done from the inside which creates a distinct look on the outside. This will require file work and there will be an imprint on the handle of the knife or a locking bar made by the company that has the name of the product and logo of the firm . The knife and its finish really have nothing in common and the finish is just to make the knife look a certain way.

If you get a knife that has a stonewash finish than you will own a knife that looks used from the beginning because the abrasive finish is created to give this old look to the knife. This knife will continue to look good from the get go because the dull parts of the blade will be covered by the finish. If you want something that looks cleaner and more polished than you should look for a Scotchbrite finish that gives this clean look.

If you buy a knife with a vibed finish than it will look worn, but the abrasions will be smaller than the stonewash style. This look will let you show off your knife when you use it and it will have a great shine to it. It is hard to keep your knife looking this good, but if you are going to use your knife as a showpiece than it could be the right choice for you. It doesn't matter which finish you choose in terms of how useful the knife is, all the finish does is make a difference in how the knife looks to you.

You can try other kinds of finishes depending on what you are looking for in a knife. You want one that will help you avoid scratching on the blade. You can get a salesperson to help you figure out which suits you best. Having a great looking knife can make cooking all that much more enjoyable for your and your family.

Attacked In the Parking Lot! : How Mrs. Scotch Striker Saved Her Life

It was about 11:00 pm Saturday the 15th of November 2001. The temperature was a cool 59 degrees with a slight drizzle from the northeast. Scotch and the beautiful demure Mrs. Striker had spent the evening at the theater. Scotch and the wife had just come from seeing the latest Christmas movie and were in the parking lot talking about the movie walking to Scotch's steel grey H-1 hummer.

All of a sudden, Scotch heard the ring and felt the dull thud as the 4-foot long section of lead pipe struck the back of his head sending him tumbling to the asphalt. Blancette, his wife started screaming at the site, and suddenly felt her long waist length blond hair grabbed from behind and yanked downward.

While one attacked proceeded to kick Scotch in the face with steel toed boots, the second attacker started to rip of Blancette's blouse off until she stood there in just a short skirt and white bra.

Throughout this vicious attack, Scotch watched in horror and shock as his beautiful wife was being fondled by the two attackers in the parking lot. A great rage developed deep in him he later recalled to the police and he realized he had to do something quick before his lovely wife was violated further. It was now time act. Taking a deep breath and gathering all of his strength, he wiped away the blood from his face, got to his feet and sprinted back to the theaters to call 911 for the police.

The two attackers watched as Scotch ran for the authorities. They considered shooting at him, but did not want to attract attention, so they just laughed at him. It was during this moment of distraction that Mrs. Striker realized that an opportunity had presented itself to her. While her two attackers were preoccupied, the self defense Close Quarters Combat training she had recently taken the previous weekend kicked in. She quickly reached inside her skirt and felt for the flat piece of steel she kept there. In one smooth motion she pulled out her large Cold Steel Vaquero and with her right hand flicked open its six inch serrated AUS-8 steel blade.

The sound of the large six inch blade locking into place caused one of the attackers to suddenly turn around, but it was too late. In one fluid motion she came up with the tactical folding knife and with all the strength her 5-10 inch 110 pound frame could muster shoved the six steel blade into the underside of her attackers chin until the entire steel blade disappeared into the attackers head. The attacker instantly fired a burst from his Glock 18 into the asphalt spraying bullets every where.

As the other attacker quickly turned toward Mrs. Striker, he suddenly felt a hot stinging sensation in his right ankle. Realizing that the second attacker was still armed Mrs. Striker quickly pulled her tactical folding knife from the chin of the first attacker and he fell at her feet.

Then without a moments' hesitation pivoted left and thrust the six inch steel blade into the second attackers groin burying the blade until the Zytel handles hit the attackers' pubic bone. Then she twisted the blade 90 degrees and pulled the knife out in the different direction. The attacker immediately started screaming putting both hands over his groin as streams of blood shot out from his groin area every second. She quickly backed away not wanting to get hit by any of the blood streams shooting out 8 feet from the attacker as he thrashed about on the asphalt.

As blancette stood there in the ready stance taught to her, suddenly she felt the firm reassuring hand of Scotch as returned with the police. Scotch said dear, I have brought help, but I see you are ok. She then wiped the blood off the Vaquero on the coat of the first attacker and closed the knife and returned it to the inside waistband of her skirt. Suddenly, she burst into tears and fell into the strong arms of her husband. Scotch took the shaken Blancette to the Police car so she could compose her self.

After few minutes, she then grew angry when she looked down at her bra and noticed that the second attacker had gotten his blood on her brand new $40 dollar Victoria Secret bra.

The police and paramedics attended to the second attackers' injuries while Mrs. Striker went home after giving a statement of facts to the police. It was later reveled that the two attackers were serial rapists. While one attacker was now dead and the other missing 9/10ths of his equipment he was still able to stand trial.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Striker were both glad she had taken that self defense course in close quarters knife fighting. That was 3 years ago and Mrs. Striker still has that original vaquero although it is now in a glass case on the living room wall. Mrs. Striker now carries a Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) M18 with a 4 inch tanto blade in her waist and a back up 3-inch M1 CRKT knife in her bra.

She plans on attending Close Quarters Knife Fighting II next year with her 18 year old daughter Chive.

What Do You Really Win Whilst Playing Monopoly?

Let's talk about the present; we don't read so much as we did once. We prefer the PC instead of a quiet night by the fireplace with our friends, talking about the latest gossips or even playing a board game. When was the last time you played a game based on a real board game? You might answer me right back that you just had a game of Scrabble or Risk .

Now ask yourself, when did you last play a board game based on a PC game, hard thing to answer, isn't it? That is because there were not any attempts to do this transfer from the virtual area to the real one - pawns, dice. But why did I bring up this issue you may ask? The answer is simple: I just wanted to underline the importance of a board game, through its accessibility and social character.

Playing the Monopoly board game is an easy thing to do: you take your board game and the rest of the set, gather a bunch of friends and start a hell of a game. It is a real game, you do not have to worry about your PC's system, the speed of the game for multi players on the Internet or about losing time for searching player's on the LAN. The reason that makes us choose a real board game as Monopoly is the social one.

It does not matter how advanced a PC game has become, because spending time and having fun with your friends is much more appealing, no matter how much you try to deny it. It is all about the pleasure of playing Monopoly, interacting with your friends & family, spending quality time together & creating memories.

Playing Monopoly can also be a perfect way to build learning skills with your children. Parents become more and more interested in the purchase of educational games for their children as playing is a very important trait for a child. Learning through a game is a reality & Monopoly is a modern game, educational and interesting which can also teach our children the basics of business life. They can buy properties & they can negotiate taxes.

All of these features can develop the qualities of a future business career in your child. Just by playing Monopoly they can learn important social skills such as communication, sharing, patience & enjoying interaction with each other .

Playing Monopoly is a captivating adventure as the longest Monopoly game ever played was 1,680 hours long, can you believe that? that's equivalent to 70 whole days. Well, that's Monopoly for you!

Miles Jacobs recommends the Monopoly Tycoon Site which will provide you with comprehensive information on all aspects of the game of Monopoly. To find articles, tips and free advice check out the site here: [http://www.monopolytycoonsite.com]

What You Need To Play Like The Pros

In table tennis videos, the ultimate player is fast. His serve strikes the table with the most precision. Upon receipt of the ball, he returns it at a speed so high that it's barely seen crossing the net. His opponent tries to make him run for the ball, but the player is so light on his feet, he seems to just glide from end to end. All the while he never takes his eyes off of the tiny little ball. He just moves like a leopard: stealthy, quick, always in control. You can perform just like him, with not just the right amount of practice, but with the right equipment. Typical table tennis equipment consists of a blade and rubber, which are both part of the racquet, a ball, a table, a net, and of course, good shoes.

Although racquet seems like a silly term to use, since we often associate those with having a net, that's what it is most often called. In the United States, though, most players call it a paddle. The wooden part of the racquet is called the blade. It can be made of wood, cork, Kevlar, or any number of things. It's about six and a half inches long and six inches wide. The other part of the racquet is the rubber. If you're customizing your own racquet, you can choose from either pimpled rubber or inverted rubber. Pimpled rubber features little dots that stick out from the rubber itself. Inverted rubber is just pimpled rubber upside down. It's recommended that starting out, players use the inverted style.

You've got to have something to hit with your racquet, so you'll need to buy balls! You'll see different colors in table tennis videos but it doesn't matter what color yours are since you're just starting out. You'll want to make sure you always pick them up when they hit the floor and keep them away from water.

Next up is the table. It should be nine feet long, five feet wide and complete with a six inch tall net.

It's also important to have proper shoes for table tennis play. You'll be standing on your feet and moving around, so good, comfortable shoes are a must. Shoe manufacturers like Adidas, Asics, and Puma even offer some more versatile shoes that can you can use at and away from the table. Now, get ready to play!

Review of Shun Santoku Knife

The Kershaw Shun, Ken Onion santoku knife is truly the industry standard when it comes to the santoku knifes. This is the most expensive santoku knife on the market today, but with good reason. These knifes can be found for sale in high end kitchen stores and in many online stores. Kershaw knifes have been an icon of the American west for almost a century. The addition of the Shun line of knifes has allowed this great company to enter the high end market for kitchen cutlery. When you hold a Shun santoku knife there is an immediate feeling of complete control and excellence.

Like all Kershaw Shun knifes the quality of the Ken Onion designed santoku is as good as it gets in the marketplace today. Shun hired legendary knife designer Ken Onion to create their line of santoku knifes. What he came up with is pure brilliance. To begin this knife is perfectly balanced. It is heavier than the other santoku knifes on the market giving the knife the ability to handle heavy jobs. However, that is not the innovative feature of this knife. The real innovation comes in the actual blade itself. The Shun santoku designed by Ken Onion has a blade that has a vented texture manufactured right into the blade. This allows the knife to cut through virtually anything without sticking. Unlike other santoku knifes that have a granton edge to reduce sticking; this knife is much more like a traditional chef knife it its style and weight. Like all Shun knifes the santoku is make out of high precision, carbon steel. Like all the great knifes that use high carbon steel, these knifes will remain sharp for a long period of time. The handle is slightly angled allowing the chef easy manipulation of the blade. The end result is a very sharp knife that can handle any job with ease and speed. When I first used this knife, I thought it would be very similar to my Wusthof santoku knife, but I was blown away that the feeling of this knife in my hand and I quickly became a believer.

The Kershaw Shun santoku knife has the trademark Shun symbol engraved on the side of the blade. What I find this knife most useful for is chopping anything. From lettuce to herbs to the all sticky garlic this knife makes quick work of those time consuming jobs. Ken Onion specifically designed this knife to handle big jobs that would normally require a cleaver.

The biggest drawback of this knife is cost of the knife. These blades are often list at a $199 retail. If you are fortune to own this great piece of cutlery in your lifetime, make sure to take proper care of the blade. These knifes are not to be used in the dishwasher. They should be wiped clean immediately after use and always hand washed. In addition, make sure to sharpen your knife by a professional at least once a year and keep the edge in tune with a steel every time you use the knife. However, if you do this the Shun santoku knife will last you a lifetime.

Kershaw Shun is one of the best knife manufacturers in the world today. The Ken Onion designed Shun santoku knife is without question as good if not better than all others on the market. This knife is the Rolls Royce of santoku knifes.

John Olson is an avid cook and home improvement specialist. The proper care and use of kitchen cutlery has been a passion of his for several decades. See Shun Santoku Knifes to learn more about this fine cutlery. In general to learn more about santoku knifes please see Best Santoku Knife

Knife Sharpener: A Necessity for Every Home

Knives, because of constant use go blunt and make the same simple tasks of cutting and chopping tiresome. This is why every home needs a knife sharpener as you cannot go out and buy new knives every now and then. If we talk of pocket knives, they are not used so regularly, but are a very handy tool and help us in tricky situations. Not using them as often and not caring for them may cause us trouble as these pocket knives get corroded and do not perform efficiently when we need them most.

Pocket knives are delicate and require care and maintenance from you. If you are lover of pocket knives and have a collection of all types such as folding, fixed, and multi utility knives, you probably need to draw out all of them once in a while and see that they are in top working condition. The best way is to wipe them clean with oil and test them with simple tasks. If you find that they are not working efficiently, you need to sharpen them. Sometimes, these pocket knives get covered with stains and it is hard to get it removed. Then also the best way to make them working is to sharpen them. Now if you haven't sharpened your knives before, it may be difficult for you to use any sharpening device, especially with pocket knives as they are small and require a different procedure from other ordinary knives in your kitchen. You can choose to take them to the market and get them sharpened from a professional, but this involves a lot of time and money. But if you learn how to sharpen your pocket knives using a tool especially for this purpose, you can save a lot of time, effort and money.

Remember the good old days when the barbers used a stone to sharpen their blade when you went for a shave to them? With just a few swipes of the blade with the sharpener, they made the edges sharp as new and started on with the new job at hand. It is the most basic device which is used for the sharpening of knives as well and you can make use of this device to sharpen your pocket knives at home. If you didn't pay attention to how the barber sharpened his razor then, well you can still learn the trick in a few trials and soon you will master the art of sharpening the knives.

The sharpening stones today are much more advanced and come in many shapes and sizes. You can use a pocket knife sharpener which has a handle and a cylindrical rod for this purpose. The rod is made from whetstone and you just need to make a few swipes of your blunt pocket knife at this sharpener and you will find that the edges are almost like a new knife in a matter of seconds. Swipe from the other side also and ensure that the burrs are removed before using the knife again.

The best knife sharpener is available now. Pocket knife sharpener is reliable and produces best results.

Custom Knives For Sale - Collectible Custom Knives

Custom knives are the oldest known tools. Throughout history, knives have not only been essential for survival but have proven to be one of the most versatile tools. From its earliest form, the knife was developed out of the necessity for survival, and its evolution may be traced through the paths of history and technology.

With a history nearly as old as mankind itself, it's no wonder why so many people have such a fascination with knives, especially when it comes to collecting unique and versatile Custom Knives.

We all marvel at a product when the word "Custom" is included. It shows individualism, uniqueness, creativity and a love for the gadgets being customized. There are many Custom Knives For Sale. Deciding on your needs, if you really have one, can be a challenge.

One thing for certain is the quality of a Custom Knife can exceed your typical production model. Most avid Custom Knife collectors already possess the knowledge required to quickly recognize a mediocre knife from that of a high quality, precision built model. Knife steel is a critical component of the custom knife. Making fine Custom knives for sale is a work of patience, and a dedication to precision craftsmanship.

High carbon and stainless steels are both acceptable if properly alloyed. The high carbon steels are typically the steels that are forged. They can be differentially tempered. This property gives the knife maker more options. He can better control the hardness of the cutting edge, and still have a tough knife with a springy back.

Whether you are looking for the perfect hunting knife, the ideal executive desk knife, or a tactical folder. In the making of a fine custom knife there is a dedication to precision craftsmanship and a refined work of patience. A custom knife maker understands the metallurgy science and knows about choosing an appropriate knife steel.

As with anything, you must take into consideration why you are choosing a specific knife and then examine the different choices. For instance, there are three different style blades for hunting knives. There are folding blades, fixed blades, and replaceable blades.

Fixed blades are used in knives without moving parts. A sheath is required to carry a fixed blade knife in. Folding knives are easily carried in pockets, pouches, or hunting kits and are as effective as fixed blade knives. For the most versatility choose hunting knives with replaceable blades. Blades can be switched with ease according to the size of the game being hunted.

Some of the better brands for Pocket knives are W.R. Case, Schrade, and Kershaw. These knife makers often carry good quality commemorative knives in pocket knife style. Harley Davidson and Winchester create some of the more popular designs for a commemorative pocket knife.

If you want to start collecting pocket knives, the more popular knives are a good style to start with because they are traditionally less costly and simpler to find.

With a heavier grade of knife, most are single blade and a little larger than a traditional pocket knife and are often referred to as folding knives. The larger blade folds back into the handle when it's not in use.

An electric knife sharpener is a tool used to sharpen the blade of your knife by grinding the edge of it. You all know that cutting something such as meat with a dull kitchen knife is very hard. So that's why you want to keep it sharp.

People invented different kinds of sharpeners that are convenient to work with. Now here comes the electric knife sharpener where it sharpens knives that are made of stainless steel, alloy and/or carbon.

Al Mar Sere Operator Knife Review

The Al Mar Sere Operator borrows its design from the popular Sere 2000 folding knife and makes for one of the toughest production fixed blades on the market today. I recently got a good deal on this knife and here are my honest opinions:

What I like about the knife:

1. At 5 inches long, the S30V blade comes extremely sharp right out of the box. S30V stainless steel is one of the most treasured blade steels in the knife world today, and for good reason. The Sere Operator has no problem holding its edge even after continuous use.

2. With so many knives being made overseas nowadays, it's becoming difficult to find any made in the U.S.A. Al Mar Sere Operators are made in the United States, and the quality reflects that.

3. Your Sere Operator will be made with a full tang that extends to the end of the handle. This feature gives the knife a lot of added strength and is much less likely to break when you need it most.

4. The molded sheath is perfect for tactical and emergency operations because it will not be affected by rain, snow or sand. The belt attachment is adjustable to allow for multiple carrying options.

5. Al Mar also offers the Sere Operator with a saw on the back of the blade, which gives you added functionality for wilderness survival or emergency situations.

What I didn't like:

I would like to see this knife available with partial or full serrations, but other than that I have nothing bad to say about the Sere Operator.

Overall:

Al Mar took a proven design and turned it into one of the most trustworthy fixed blades out there. I highly recommend this knife as a camping, military or emergency tool that will last a lifetime.

Colt Firefighter Pocket Knife CT125 - Quick Review

The Colt Rockloc pocket knife offers firefighters the following features:

  • Lightning Fast Opening

  • Razor Sharp Blade

  • Firefighter Engraving

  • Blade Lock

  • Made in USA

When the situation demands that a blade open quickly, the Colt Rockloc answers the call.

Developed by Rocky Moser, hence the name, the assisted opening does exactly what it says. Simply begin pushing on either one of the thumb studs and the spring-loaded mechanism takes over from there.

Caution: Make sure that you keep your fingers away from the end of the handle when opening as the blade can pinch them quite easily.

It is also good to mention that the assisted opening feature of the Colt firefighter pocket knife should not be confused with a switch blade.

In fact, during my testing of this knife, I noticed that the assisted opening does not kick in until the blade is a good ways out of the handle. I'm assuming that this feature is a built-in safety precaution.

Needless to say, with a blade this sharp, you certainly would not want it to accidentally open while it was still in your pocket!

As far as sharpness is concerned, the 440 stainless steel blade has a mean edge. In addition to the cutting ability of the knife, the tanto design of the blade offers extra piercing strength as well.

When it comes to looks, the red and black handle provides both appearance and helps to ensure a non-slip grip.

Another feature that adds to the appearance of the knife is the engraving that can be found on the blade. Once in the open position, the words "Fire Fighter" as well as the fire department logo are prominently displayed on the blade of the Colt Rockloc CT125.

Any time you are dealing with sharp objects, safety always comes into play.

The Colt Rockloc assisted opening pocket knife offers a locking feature to keep the blade in the open position. To close the blade, depress the safety release that is located on the back of the knife.

Here are a couple of concerns that popped up during my testing of the Colt firefighter pocketknife.

One of the drawbacks I found was the small size of the thumbstuds. When I exerted force on the thumbstuds to open the blade, I could definitely feel them digging into my finger. It was not an excruciating pain by any means but there was no mistaking that it was there.

Perhaps if the thumbstuds were a little wider they would not dig into your finger as much when opening the knife.

A plus, though, is that there is a thumbstud located on each side of the blade, which offers versatility for either right or left-handed opening.

Another possible concern is the locking mechanism.

I am not completely sure how well it would hold up if extreme pressure were exerted on the back of the blade. It is possible that if the knife were being used to spear something that it would increase the chances of an accidental closing.

A good and safe practice of the Colt CT125 would be to only use it according to its intended purpose.

Note: Keep in mind that the more moving parts that a pocketknife has, the more chance there is of something breaking. This is especially true when dealing with an assisted opening knife.

So do the pros outweigh the cons? Only you can decide if the Colt Rockloc is right for you based on your intended use of the knife.

All in all, if you are looking for a firefighter pocketknife that is easy to open as well as looks good, you might consider the Colt Rockloc CT125.

MW2 Equipment

Throwing Knife

Advantages:

- It only takes 1 hit to kill an enemy.

- You can pick them back up after throwing, even pull them out of the enemy you just killed

Disadvantages:

- The aim on these isn't great and like everything needs practice, its kinda like firing grenade launchers..

Tactical Insertion

Advantages:

- Marks your respawn spot works good in Headquarters.

- If you have a good spot that's hard to get to put a tactical insertion there and no more worries.

Disadvantages:

- They take about 5 seconds to use.

- They glow a pretty bright green light making them easy for enemies to spot. Tactical Insertions can be destroyed or even worse enemies can wait beside them till you respawn to get an easy kill.

- Having a TI equipped means you cant have claymore or frag but used along wit one man army takes care of that.

Blast Shield

Advantages:

- Less explosive damage from grenades, claymores etc good for headquarters, domination etc

Disadvantages:

- It replaces your equipment frag, claymore etc...

- With this equipped you cant see as well

Claymore

Advantages:

- If placed correctly can wrap up a lot of kills especially equipped with scavenger.

- They provide great protection, even if some one manages to get by you are normally close enough to hear it blow. So you can be waiting for the enemy to come around the corner.

Disadvantages:

- They can some times easily be spotted especially with sit-rep.

- With scavenger equipped you can only plant two claymores at a time. Which sucks but you see where their coming from. There would be claymores everywhere.

-Scrambler Pro delays claymore's letting the enemy sneak up behind you.

C4

Advantages:

- They are usually very hard to see..

- They stick to anything this is especially handy for Search and Destroy and Headquarters.

- They have higher damage than Claymore.

Disadvantages:

- You have to remotely detonate C4.

Stun Grenades

Advantages:

- They have a pretty long range and you can throw them pretty far.

- They are good up against multiple enemies in a group.

Disadvantages:

- They don't have much damage but you can kill someone if their life is low or in hardcore modes.

- They don't always work as well as you would hope depends on where they land beside the enemy.

Flash Grenades

Advantages:

- They also have a pretty long range.

- They completely blind the enemy.

Disadvantages:

- They don't have much damage but you can kill someone if their life is low or in hardcore modes.

- They don't always work as well as you would hope depends on where they land beside the enemy. You can move when flashed.

Smoke Grenades

Advantages:

- You can get good distance with these.

- Smoke grenades give great cover.

- They last quite a bit providing really good cover.

Disadvantages:

- Thermal Scopes see right through smoke. So your enemy can see you if they have thermal equipped and you dont have cold blooded.

- There is no damage from smoke grenades.

- The enemy will also be covered by your smoke.

Frag Grenades

Advantages:

- Frags have very long range and you can throw these halfway across a lot of maps. They roll and bounce very similar to real Grenades.

- You can bounce Frags off doors and walls into a room, keeping you nice and safe. Cooking the grenade first can be a huge advantage.

- Cooking a grenade means holding onto it for a couple of seconds and releasing at the perfect time to kill your enemy and not give him the chance to get away. It takes a lot of practice to time it correctly but once mastered the enemy will have trouble running away when the grenade explodes when the grenade explodes as soon as its thrown in front of them.

Disadvantages:

- Frags make a loud distinctive sound when they hit the ground allowing the enemy time to run away.

- Frags can be picked up and thrown back, this can be an advantage and disadvantage. It is advised to cook grenades before you throw, not giving the enemy a chance to throw it back.

Semtex

Advantages:

- Just like a frag but it sticks to anything even the enemy not giving them a chance.

- They don't cook like frags so less likely to blow yourself up, they also have a shorter fuse.

Disadvantages:

- They make a loud beeping sound giving them away.

- Being sticky you cant bounce these off doors and walls.

Tactical Equipment For Everyone

It's hardly surprising that terms such as tactical equipment or tactical gear make people think about things like multicam tactical vests with ammunition pouches worn by soldiers and SWAT team members. But just because something was designed with these users in mind doesn't mean those products are not of interest to people in other categories. In fact, going for 'tactical' products may well be a good choice for those looking for rugged and hard-wearing clothes and equipment for other use as well. While not always the case, going the 'tactical' route can often be the best way to get value for money. Let's take a look at some of these products.

  • Clothes. Many people wouldn't think of looking to tactical suppliers for quality clothes, put off by the thought of these clothes looking too 'military'. Not true. A personal favorite of mine for example, is the 'tactical pants' made by 5.11 Tactical. These are basically your typical cargo pants; simple cotton pants with lots of useful pockets. The difference from your regular, 'civilian' manufacturer is that these pants are extremely hard-wearing. They come in a range of different colors, so you're not stuck with an olive drab 'military' design.

  • Footwear. Not much to say on this one. Military and law enforcement personnel spend a lot of time walking and standing, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that companies supplying these categories can only get away with being best in class, or they'll find themselves losing market-shares quickly. As for the look being too 'military' - well a boot is a boot, and now most come in khaki which looks more civilian than black leather.

  • Bags. Tactical suppliers make everything from laptop bags to large rucksacks, and as is the case with footwear, these products simply have to be of high quality and be comfortable even when carrying heavy loads in order to impress the intended users. And again, many of these products are made in discreet colors such as khaki or black, which won't stand out as 'tactical'.

  • Belts and pouches. Police and military personnel carry a lot of stuff with them. Flashlights, handcuffs, radio, etc. These items are usually put in pouches that attach to a tactical vest, a chest-rig or some form of load-carrying duty belt. While few people would probably go around wearing a chest rig, attaching a number of pouches in various sizes to a sturdy nylon belt makes sense for a lot of people who carry tools around with them for work. Again, particularly with products aimed at the law enforcement segment, these often come in black and won't stand out.

I could go on. And on. But I think you get the picture. Products that are commonly referred to as being tactical are in fact very high quality, no-nonsense, useful stuff that can and should be used by a wider audience. There are plenty of suppliers out there and lots of sites discussing and reviewing tactical equipment. Go have a look. See how you can use tactical gear to make your life easier.

Choosing a Knife Set - Forged Kitchen Knives Or Stamped Kitchen Knives?

I wrote this article after I went through the unpleasant process of choosing a new kitchen knife set to purchase. There are so many brands of kitchen knives to choose from, in a myriad of styles and prices, all with different features. The biggest decision I had to make was in choosing between stamped kitchen knives and forged kitchen knives.

Many people believe that forged knives are much better than stamped knives. While this was true years ago, it is no longer true today. The manufacturing process of stamped knives has improved so much that they are now considered to be equal to forged knives by most experts.

There are differences between the two styles and each has their own separate benefits. A stamped knife is much lighter and many professional chefs agree is more flexible because it contains a thinner blade. A forged knife is considered to be a little more durable because of a thicker steel blade. Without getting too much into the manufacturing process, the major difference between the two is the stamping process involves using a cookie cutter method where the blade is actually punched out of a larger piece of steel while forging involves heating and flattening the blade repeatedly. Temperatures as high as 1900 degrees Fahrenheit are used.

Both methods can contain very sharp blades that hold their edge well. The higher the grade of stainless steel is what determines sharpness here and that can basically be determined by price. The more expensive the knife the better the steel is that's used. In the end, your decision should be made based on how you are going to be using the knives most. If you plan on cutting a lot of heavy meats and large vegetables, forged is the way to go. If you do more stir frys or Asian type cooking, stamped is better.

Make Sure You are Informed Before You Buy!

The best way to know if the set you are considering is worth buying is to hear what consumers are saying about it. What are people who already own the knives saying about them? You can find out at this website I found a few months ago. It's called The Top Kitchen Knife Sets [http://www.topkitchenknifesets.com].

My Review Of The Ka-Bar USMC Tactical Knife

Knife Specs.

Blade length: 7 inches

Blade material: 1095 carbon steel

Sheath Material: Nylon

Handle Material: Black Kraton

What I like about the knife

1. At 7 inches long, the epoxy powder coated blade is the perfect length for utility or tactical use. Ka-Bar uses a clip point design, which even makes the USMC knife useful for hunting and skinning.

2. The guard and pommel are made from carbon steel. This means that your fingers have excellent protection from slipping unto the blade. The steel pommel is rugged enough to make a nice hammer or mallet in the field.

3. Ka-Bar decided to use black kraton in the handle of their USMC knife, which has proven itself over the years to give you an awesome grip even in the most horrific conditions.

4. A tough nylon sheath is the perfect companion for such a brutal knife. That's exactly what you get with the USMC. The good thing about this type of sheath is that it won't be affected by rain, snow or other moisture. Dirt and mud should clean up easily from this type of sheath also.

5. Each Ka-Bar USMC has extreme sharpness and toughness because of the 1095 carbon steel. The only downfall to this type of steel is that it can rust if not cared for properly. To protect you from this, Ka-Bar covers the blade with a powder coat that serves as both an anti-rust agent and an anti-reflectant.

What I didn't like:

I like just about everything, but I only wish that Ka-Bar offered the USMC with a fully serrated blade.

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of $92, the Ka-Bar USMC knife is about as tough as it gets. You will be happy to have such a rugged knife when it matters the most.

USMC Knives are selling for $45 or less at http://www.KnifeSell.com

Chef Knife Reviews

If you ever wanted to cook like a chef, have a goal to be a chef or you are a chef, you know that one of the most important tools a chef can have is a high quality and versatile chef knife. Many chefs refer to a high quality chef knife like this as a French knife. All in all, a chef knife can be used for just about any job in a kitchen, but some chef knives perform some jobs better than others.

While looking for a chef knife that will fit you and your needs in the kitchen, there are a few key attributes you will want to pay attention to. You will want to know what the knife is made of, the origin of the knife, what type and length of blade the knife has and the construction of the knife. High end chef knives will list all of these attributes for you to look over and review, so make sure you pay close attention to them while you search for the perfect chef knife for you.

The most common materials that high quality chef knives are made of are stainless and carbon steel, titanium and laminated or ceramic materials. Most often you will find that the best chef knives are constructed from stainless steel, carbon steel or titanium. All three of these materials have benefits and specialties that are specific to them, so do your due diligence.

The origin of the knife is usually either of Japanese origin or US origin. A couple of common chef knife types that originate from Japan are gyuto and santoku. However, western chef knives are getting much better and origin is becoming less important.

One of the most crucial factors you should consider is the length of and type of blade of the chef knife. Carbon Steel blades are easier to sharpen and can hold an edge longer while Stainless steel has a little more trouble holding an edge, but is much less corrosive than carbon steel. One of the highest quality types of blade you can get is a high carbon stainless steel blade, which has superior sharpness and will hold an edge for very long periods of time.

The length of blade on a chef knife will typically be 6-inches, 8-inches or 10-inches. If you are looking for versatility, the 8-inch blade should be your choice. However, if you will be using your chef knife for smaller more precise cuts, a 6-inch blade will be preferable, while for larger cutting jobs will be much more suited with a 10-inch blade.

One last thing to consider when choosing a chef knife is the knife handle. The majority of chef knife handles are made of wood, plactic, steel or rubber. My personal choice may be different than yours, but a good fit and comfort in holding are the most important. I have found that rubber handles are usually the easiest and most comfortable to grip. Respirine-C and Kraton are two common materials used for handles with a rubbery feel.

There can be some other factors to consider when choosing a chef knife for yourself, but what I have covered here are the most important ones. Overall, it is also important to see what other people are saying about their experiences with different brands and styles of chef knives.

Above all, make sure you find the perfect chef knife that works for YOU.

Ka-bar Bull Dozier Knife Review

We all know that the Ka-Bar USMC knife is one of the toughest fixed blades out there. Does their Bull Dozier knife measure up to a time-tested classic? Here are my opinions:

What I like about the knife:

1. The Bull Dozier is made with a full tang that extends all the way to the end of the handle. This feature makes the knife very strong and unlikely to break even under the toughest conditions.

2. At 6.5 inches, the clip point style blade is long enough to be a wilderness survival companion or a tactical tool for military and law enforcement. Crafted with AUS 8A stainless steel that is black powder-coated, The Bull Dozier comes shaving sharp out of the box and holds an edge very well.

3. Your fingers have protection from slipping unto the blade because of the guard and well-designed handle. The handle is not only comfortable, but very tough and unaffected by elements like rain. The outer portion is made from glass-reinforced zytel, and the inside has kraton inserts for extra-comfort.

4. The hard plastic sheath is rugged and comes with a reversible belt attachment to allow for right or left handed carry.

5. Bull Doziers come with a plain (non-serrated) edge, which allows for easy sharpening in the wilderness or emergency situations.

What I didn't like:

I would like to see this same knife available with a silver blade and at least partial serrations.

Overall:

The Ka-Bar Bull Dozier is a perfect knife for camping, hunting or military use. It is tough as nails and will last you a lifetime.

Use of Tomahawks For Survivalists

We all are familiar with the type of axe commonly known as a tomahawk. This tool or better referred to as a weapon traditionally resembles a large hatchet but with a straight shaft for its handle. Its name originally was derived from the 17th century translation of a Virginian Algonquian's word. Tomahawks were usually used as a general purpose tools by the Native Americans as well as the early European Colonials.

In the North American Colonial French areas a slightly different version of the tomahawk was employed by both the French settlers as well as the Indigenous Peoples within the area. The British army began to issue tomahawks to the colonial regulars as late as the 18th Century. This practice continued on up to the American Revolutionary War.

Since 2001 the American Tomahawk company has been manufacturing and selling their ever popular "Vietnam Tomahawk". Yes, you guessed it - the tomahawk was in fact used by the American Special Forces groups such as the Rangers during the Vietnam conflict thus the derived name of "Vietnam Tomahawk". SOG Knives Inc. saw the increased popularity and decided to create their own versions of the older "Vietnam Tomahawk" known as "Fusion Tactical Tomahawk". Keep in mind that the original "Vietnam Tomahawk" is extremely rare and highly expensive.

As we mentioned the American Tomahawk Company's "Vietnam Tomahawk" version is still in use today and is very popular with the American Army's Stryker Brigade located in Afghanistan, as well as the 172nd SBCT Team from Fort Wainwright, 3rd Brigade, the 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, as well as a Recon Platoon associated with the 2-183d CAV.

For those who may be interested here is a bit of trivia concerning the VTAC's National Stock Number which is 4210 01 518 7244 and it is classified as "Class 9 type rescue kit". This item is standard in every Stryker vehicle. It is known as a "Modular Entry Tool kit".

It is making a rapid comeback with the American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan as a tool and readily used in hand-to-hand combat. The tomahawk's military use includes non-explosive entry, removal of obstacles, removal of lock/hasps, opening crates, fuel drum ventilating, personal defense as well as IED removal.

So a quick review of its potential makes it an ideal weapon and tool for every survivalist and truly has its place in our BOV's.

Purchase a Stainless Steel Tank

This article will give you helpful hints on purchasing a tank. Stainless tanks are used in a variety of applications and in many industries. One of the major industries that utilize these are the food processing industry. In fact, most of the food processing industry uses stainless steel for everything. This is because stainless steel is very easy to clean and take care of, and will also not rust. It keeps food cleaner and safer, and it also allows the equipment to last much longer. A stainless steel tank usually costs close to a dollar a gallon or more, compared steel or fiberglass, which are near 60 cents per gallon.

Most tanks are described by their size, usually in gallons. When looking to purchase one for your industry, try to find out how much you need. These are categorized by how many gallons they can hold. For example, a listing may look like this "10,000 Gallon Stainless Steel Tank For Sale". Notice how the gallons are listed. This information is still not enough information to make a purchase. You also need to find out how it tank sits, and its dimensions. There are many different sizes, such as horizontal tanks, vertical tanks, cone shaped tanks, and more. You need to find out exactly the type of application you're looking for before you purchase a tank.

Always try to get photos of tank, inside and out before you make a purchase. This will be able to show you the condition of the tank and to see if there may have been any damage to the tank. Small dents, and even large ones, can be pushed back out in most tanks, however make sure there are no cracks or leaks in them.

Before purchasing a storage tank, always be sure to check to see where it is located and how accessible it is. Many times you are responsible for rigging the stainless steel tank onto your own truck. Always work in the price of shipping and rigging before purchasing, as some tanks are installed into very tight spaces.

Knife Sharpening Equipment Guide

Each time you buy a set of quality kitchen knives make sure to buy a a good quality sharpening stone as well. Sure enough, these knives will dull in time and require some sharpening at some point. The typical method of sharpening knives is still being used today with wet stones. In fact, old school knife sharpeners still appreciate this sharpening method. Cutting edge technology in fabricating top quality knives also needed a market for top quality sharpening tools. Professional knife sharpeners are considered artisans and they can be pretty hard to find these days. And when you do, they can be relatively expensive.

If you're a housewife with a knack at being pretty handy, you will find yourself at ease at handling these knife sharpening equipments. The consumer market offers electric kitchen knife sharpeners that come with easy to follow instructions and can be found in most homes as many people realize how professional services can be quite expensive. Although the crudest method only requires a wet stone, doing this may need a bit of practice from the home owner to achieve satisfactory results without ruining a set of expensive knives. Most restaurants would rather invest on a knife sharpening equipment as kitchen knives play a crucial role in the efficiency of their kitchen. The cooks preparing food surely will need to sharpen their knives constantly. This is due to the varying textures of food they need to chop and cut for long hours and naturally, and knives take a good beating from this. Having to send knives to a professional knife sharpener may present a few unpredictable snags along the way and compromise the kitchen in the end that can cost some good money. Electric knife sharpeners are a good investment for restaurateurs as this makes the lives of their kitchen staff much more convenient and efficient in their performance.

The market offers various models of knife sharpening equipment suited for either home use or professional use. They can cost as much as up to $100 but you can get a good one for a reasonable price of about $30. Those intended for commercial heavy duty use can cost a few hundreds of dollars but may not be as sharp as you expect them although it can handle some pretty good bulk chopping and slicing.

Prior to purchasing an electric knife sharpener, you have to know and you understand the shape and the slope of your knive's blade. A blade's beveled edge will tell you how sharp the knife is or how fine it can cut. Chefs like Japanese knives because they are seriously sharper and show off with precision cuts and slices because of its tight beveled angle.

Always pay attention to the kind materials used in the type of grinding stone used in an electric sharpener you would like to buy. The diamond coated stones are harder however, other materials used will be hard enough to do do a good job on most knives.Single stage electric knife sharpeners generally sharpen both sides of the blade with the use of interlocking grinding wheels. Just place the knife in between the vertical wheels with the sharp edge facing down and slowly pull it through. Do this a few times until the knife is sharp enough to your preference. If a fancier knife sharpening equipment is more to your fancy, there are multi-stage electric sharpeners out in the market. They are made with three types of grinding stones. A coarse stone and is perfect for very blunt knives and generally used for the first stage. The second stage has a medium surface grind stone to remove the scratches as it smoothens and sharpens the blade's edge. The third stage lets you polish and buff your knife with its fine surface stone or plastic disks.

Kitchen knives are a good investment in any kitchen. Give yourself a little bit more leverage by putting in a few more dollars on some type of knife sharpening equipment to make your total investment worthwhile.

Why a G-10 Handle For Your Knife?

Knife handles have many qualities that are important to how they function under the conditions in which they are used. Every variety of handle material has its high points and disadvantages. It is imperative for safety and ease of use that the handle of a knife is easy to grip without it slipping, and strong enough to withstand the punishment necessary to get the job done. For this reason G-10 is used in the making of many types and brands of knife handles.

G-10 is a highly durable material commonly used in the making of top quality knife handles. It is especially popular in the making of tactical folding knives, hunting knives, and survival knives. G-10 is used because it is strong, lightweight, virtually moisture and climate resistant, and doesn't shrink. It has high impact strength, and resists cracking even when exposed to the most extreme temperatures and conditions.

G-10 is a heat retardant, electrical grade laminate created by layering fiberglass cloth and industrial grade resin. The material is then heated and compressed to bind the layers. First introduced in the mid 1950's the scientifically manufactured substance has also been used in aerospace and underwater applications. Because it is so versatile G-10, and variations of it, serve well in making insulation for extremely high and low temperature electrical and medical equipment.

There are two other forms of G-10 that I would like to mention. The first of which is FR4, a fire retardant version of the original fiberglass and resin version of G-10. This is commonly known as Garolite. FR4 can be used in place of G-10 adding more protection to the components made with it, and has applications in a wide variety of mechanical insulation and electrical manufacturing processes.

The other variation of G-10 is a material called Micarta which is made just like G-10, except linen cloth is used in place of fiberglass. Micarta is light, durable, and does not have a surface texture of its own. It is smooth to the touch and it has a more elegant look than G-10, but can be scratched if not properly taken care of. This material is also very common in knife handle manufacturing. Unlike regular G-10 or FR4, Micarta requires some work be done by hand, and for that reason can sometimes increase the price of a better quality knife.

The original G-10 material most often comes in black but is also available in different colors; such as blue, green, orange, and tiger stripped to name a few. There is also a process where knife makers laminate mother of pearl, or other decorative materials to G-10 to create ornamental scales on the surface of the knife handle. Waterproof and chemical resistant the layering process used to make G-10 gives it a unique look when ground and polished. G-10 is most often textured with a checking pattern that really adds to its aesthetic appeal, but there are other gripping surfaces to choose from. The checking pattern seems to be a knife enthusiast favorite because of its gripping strength, and comfort.

So if you are looking for a top quality handle on the knives you use for work and recreation, available in many different colors and brand names, then G-10 may be the right fit for you. You will find G-10 used to make almost every style of knife you need including tactical folders, folding knives, fixed blade knives, hunting knives, survival knives, and utility knives. All the benefits of the G-10 handle make it a sound decision every time you shop for a knife.

Tactical Gear Can Take You Places!

The armed forces and law enforcement organizations have always valued the availability of tactical gear and today we have several manufacturers who invent, fabricate, and market tactical gear with exotic names like Blackhawk, La Police, Oakley, Gerber etc. It is quite interesting to learn more about the background to such gear and what makes the defense organizations the most important customer for companies that manufacture tactical gear. No military or law enforcement agency can survive without the right "tactical gear" and they must choose the most effective equipment that helps them in safeguarding their high risk activities in everyday life. This gives the added confidence to both the organization and the personnel that make up this unit. The feature is like a "bible" since lack of proper or adequate facilities can make the difference between victory and defeat!

What is the most guarded secret of manufacturing tactical gear? Is there a large research team or do the ideas for these law reinforcement or armed services equipments come from scientists? There could be many questions and several interpretations or answers to such queries. What is important is what tactical gear really means and why it is used in sensitive careers. The best gear available in the market comes from experienced people who have skill in using the items and are themselves law enforcement or military personnel.

Does this sound strange? It should not appear a mystery since names like the ones mentioned in the previous paragraphs were invented by the users themselves! Consequently the tactical gear bears the experience stamp of veterans in the business of strategic and tactical activities. The greatest compliment considered by these inventors or more appropriately entrepreneurs in tactical gear comes from the people who use the gear. What makes a company popular in the field of tactical gear? Anyone who does business in any sector knows that the first and foremost criterion for success is customer satisfaction. A company that recognizes this fact scores high amongst the professional buyers of tactical products. It pays rich dividends to go out to your existing and potential customers to "show your wares" rather than just rely on your website or offline stores. This philosophy will surely take you miles in your tactical gear business. It is no easy task to purchase tactical gear for either law enforcement uses or military outlets. One must know the products well to appreciate good quality that is not only affordable but highly durable and more importantly reliable.

One must look for companies that have a large store of such items catering to several end-uses like: Battering Rams, Belts, Boots, Drop Leg Pouches, Flashlights, Hydration Packs, Knives, Medical gear, Shooting Mats, tactical holsters and packs, Vests All the tactical gear must be approved by authorized agencies or government departments. Apart from the most significant tactical gear one can also procure many accessories comprising of apparel, armor, carry bags, chest protection, eye protection, footwear, gloves, guns, outdoor protective gear and so forth. In conclusion, the purchaser of tactical gear needs to review the available sources and what they guarantee before making a decision on the items intended to be used by their personnel. Reputed suppliers always have a customer guidance cell to inform their clients on the best gear for specific uses.
