James A. Keating is a Master-At-Arms and acclaimed knife designer who joined forces with Spyderco several years ago to develop a knife called the Chinook. The original design has since been refined and upgraded to yield the latest version, the Chinook 3. Like the original, the Chinook 3 is an extremely heavy duty knife speficially designed for the rigors of outdoor use or martial arts practice. Its back lock mechanism is one of the strongest of any Spyderco folder and ensures that the knife will perform reliably in the most demanding circumstances. Classified as a modified Bowie, its CPM-S30V blade is fully flat ground from the cutting edge to spine to provide outstanding edge geometry and cutting performance. The handle is constructed on a framework of skeletonized stainles steel liners that are nested into textured G-10 scales. The result is a dynamic combination of extreme strength, reduced weight and a slim profile. Jimping (texturing) on the blade’s spine provides a secure thumb purchase for increased control during use and a four-way clip supports left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry.
